Join us on this great adventure to the Lone Star state to take in San Antonio’s River Walk, see the Bluebonnet Trail, and follow the footsteps of your favorites from HGTV’s Fixer Upper Show. All in the Heart of Texas!
We begin this tour with an overnight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We then head out to Texas with a stop at the Texas Energy Museum in Beaumont to learn the unique history of the ‘oil rush’. We’ll enjoy an included lunch at a local spot and then head out to San Antonio. A highlight of our San Antonio stop will be two nights at the Drury Inn, which is located on the beautiful Riverwalk! It offers a great location for everyone to enjoy the Riverwalk area. While in town, we will have a guided tour of the city including a stop at the Mission San Jose, which was founded in 1720. This is a lovely town with outstanding heritage and we will learn a great deal about it on our tour. We follow that up with a stop at the historic Menger Hotel, which is next door to the Alamo. At the Menger, we will enjoy an included lunch in the Colonial Room. We’ll then walk next door and see where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against General Santa Anna at the Alamo. Our fun tour of this city continues with a river cruise on the Paseo Del Rio, the largest urban water ecosystem in the nation. Tucked quietly below street level, it provides a serene and pleasant way to navigate the city. You’ll have the evening on your own to explore the Riverwalk more and take in dinner on your own.
The following morning, we are off to see the Bluebonnet Trail. We will be driving through quaint towns in search of the beautiful blossoms. We will make a stop in Fredericksburg to visit the Wildseed Farm, the nation’s largest working wildflower farm. We then make our way to Waco for the next two nights. This small city has a hometown feel, and has recently reinvented itself and is making a nice comeback. Dinner our first night will be at the Dr. Pepper Museum. We will learn the history of this famous soft drink in their Old Corner Drug Store. We’ll even get to see the soda jerk ‘shoot a Waco’ in the Soda Fountain. Should be fun!
Now we’re ready to enjoy our HGTV kind of day as a local guide leads us on a Fixer Upper and Waco tour with a visit to the Common Grounds, Harp’s Design and JDH Iron Designs. Some of you will recognize all of these from the Fixer Upper show! We will also cross the famous Waco Suspension Bridge and then head out for lunch and shopping on your own at the Magnolia Market and Silos. (If you’re not a shopper, a side trip to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum is available too.) We have a fun evening dinner planned at the Cameron Park Natural Zoo Habitat’s Brazos River Country. You’ll be transported to a sunken Spanish galleon that showcases a 50,000-gallon aquarium. Another fun day!
Our time in Texas will come to an end today as we make our way to Bossier, Louisiana for lunch at Ralph and Kacoo’s. Then it’s on to the Biedenharn Coca Cola Museum and Garden. You’ll get to step up to the counter to hear the tales of how their bottling process began. You can even buy a coke for a nickel! You’ll also want to take some time to enjoy their garden and a unique Bible collection as well. Our overnight will be in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The following morning it’s time to saddle up and head on back to Georgia!
This is going to be a really fun trip with lots of great stops. Join us for a rootin-tootin, heart of Texas journey!!
