New England in the fall delights all the senses. On this fall foliage tour, experience breathtaking landscapes and historic places. Enjoy New England with its postcard-worthy lighthouses, seaside villages, amazing coasts, tastes of Vermont, New Hampshire’s Castle in the Sky, and more on this 10-day spectacular adventure of colorful beauty!
Our adventure begins as we make our way north with overnights in Virginia and Rhode Island. We then make our way to Point Judith to board the high-speed ferry to the beautiful storybook Island of Block Island. This island is 12 miles off the coast of Newport and has been heralded as one of the twelve best-unspoiled areas in the north. We will enjoy a guided tour with spectacular views of the rolling dunes, dazzling beaches, and the Victorian village. You’ll have free time after lunch to enjoy the village. We then return to the mainland and make our way to the seaside village of Ogunquit, Maine, the beautiful place by the sea. A guide will be joining us and will stay with us thru out the tour in the north. We’ll check into the Meadowmere Resort for the night with an included dinner. The following morning we’ll make a brief picture stop at the beautiful Cape Neddick Lighthouse, see Kennebunkport, Portland, and Camden. Midday, we’ll enjoy a visit to the top of Mount Battie for wonderful views and free time for lunch in charming Camden. This afternoon, we arrive in Bar Harbor on Mt Desert Island and check into the Bar Harbor Regency for a relaxing two-night stay. We’ll enjoy our ocean views and resort amenities and then be treated to an included dinner in town tonight.
The next morning, we’ll tour the awesome, Acadia National Park, with its rugged rock covered coastlines and stunning sea views. We’ll visit famous Thunder Hole along with other scenic picture stops and travel to the top of Cadillac Mountain for a stunning view of Frenchman’s Bay, Porcupine Islands, and Bar Harbor. This afternoon, we’ll embark on a scenic cruise out on the Bay. A delicious lobster dinner is planned for the evening.
Our next area to visit is beautiful New Hampshire Lakes region. Mid-day we arrive at the lovely lakeside village of Wolfeboro to explore at our leisure and enjoy lunch on our own. A highlight of the tour will be our afternoon visit to Castle in the Clouds, Thomas Plant’s spectacular Arts and Crafts mansion built by over 1200 craftsmen at a cost of over $1 Million in 1914. The icon is wonderfully preserved to give a real sense of how country life was lived by the fabulously wealthy at the turn of the century. Later, we’ll continue to our Lakes Region hotel for a relaxing night’s stay and enjoy another included dinner. We then continue on into Vermont to visit the Quechee Gorge, the states’ little Grand Canyon, and then on to the quintessential New England village of Woodstock for some touring and free time. Next up is the Green Mountain Sugar House for a maple demonstration and tastings. Then it’s off to the village of Weston and home to the Vermont Country Store, an icon is this charming little town. You can pick from 1000’s of practical and hard to find items while here! From the cheery ring of the Storekeeper’s bell to the friendly creak of the hardwood floors, we’ll step back to a simpler time and place. We later check in to the Grand Summit Resort, located at the base of Mount Snow. It’s here that we can relax a bit, soak up the scenery, and relax before our dinner with entertainment.
Our Vermont journey continues with a stop at the Bennington Battle Monument and the Apple Barn for their Taste of Vermont experience which includes a narrated tour to the top of their 300-acre orchard for panoramic views of southern Vermont. We’ll enjoy a slice of apple pie ala mode while here. Later we’ll depart for Pennsylvania for our overnight and dinner together.
We now make our way south with wonderful memories and photos in our mind of spectacular New England in the fall! Our overnight this evening will be in Virginia, where we’ll take in a farewell dinner; followed by a day of traveling the next morning back to Georgia.
