Movies, Music, and More!
September 28-29, 2017 / Two Days and One Night
We have a fun little overnight for you with new tours and some really unique plans! We begin in Peachtree City where we will pick up a step on guide from the Southern Hollywood Film Tours. She takes us to some of the new spots that have been used in the filming of many Hollywood movies here in Georgia, and through the area where the TV show “The Walking Dead’ is filmed. We’ll be visiting places like Harrodson, Senoia, and several other local spots. You’ll see places where Fried Green Tomatoes, Sweet Home Alabama, and more were filmed and see what’s next up for filming here. While out we’ll enjoy an included lunch in the ‘studio cafeteria ‘ near Pinewood Studios. The Atlanta area is red hot right now with filming, so it will be a lot of fun to see all the areas that they are using now. If time allows, we will visit pretty downtown of Senoia for a bit of window shopping and a rest break before traveling to Columbus for our overnight.
Upon arrival, we will check- into our hotel, the Hampton Inn. After a bit of rest, it’s on to the Springer Opera House downtown. This beautiful building has been around for over 140 years and has played host to dozens of famous actors. The stage has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur and is now on the National Historic Landmark list. While there we will enjoy an included dinner in the ‘Saloon’. You’ll think you’re in an 1880’s saloon as we enjoy this delicious pre-show dinner! Now it’s curtain time for Dreamgirls! This dazzling Broadway style musical is based on the show business stories of Motown and soul legends such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, and Jackie Wilson. The winner of 6 Tony Awards, it follows the story of a young girl group that rises from amateur competitions to the glittering pinnacle of superstardom. It’s a wonderful show, with amazing music and is sure to be a hit with everyone.
The following morning we will make a quick visit to the Columbus Museum which houses a permanent collection on regional history and American Art. There’s also a film there on the history of the Chattahoochee Valley. Not to mention a wonderful gift shop…..and a beautiful 13-acre Botanical Garden, which was laid out by the Olmstead Brothers. It features seasonal displays, waterfalls, and much more. Afterward, we will cross the street to visit the lovely Victorian Wynn House for a delightful included lunch in a beautiful setting. We will round this all out with a quirky little stop on the way home….it’s a surprise! This should be a fun little getaway, with lots to do, great food, ALL new tours, and a fabulous play! Won’t you join us???
