Tennessee Backroads and the General Morgan Inn
November 8th – 10th, 2022
Three days and two nights
Join us on this sweet trip to pretty Greeneville, Tennessee. It will be our home base for two nights, where we’ll be staying at the historic General Morgan Inn right in town. Originally built in 1886, this lovely brick building has changed names over the year, but has remained a beautiful hotel. This property will be a great hotel to stay at as we enjoy the backroads of pretty east Tennessee. You’ll also love the in-town location. We’ll begin in Georgia though, with an included all-you-can-eat family-style lunch at the Dillard House. We’ll continue on over the mountains towards Asheville and then head west into pretty Tennessee. There still should be some beautiful fall colors too. Once we arrive in Greeneville, we’ll get checked in at the hotel and enjoy a wonderful private dinner in one of their banquet rooms. It’s a very special place to enjoy a lovely meal together.
The following morning our local guide, Vera Ann Myers will join us as we go to the oldest town in the state, Jonesborough. It’s absolutely charming. We’ll stop by the visitor center to see their local museum. While there, costumed guides will lead us on a very short walking tour downtown. They’ll tell you the history and weave in a lot of stories along the way. After all, Jonesborough is the storytelling capital of Tennessee. I took this tour last year and loved it. Along the way, you can visit some local shops or perhaps stop by the local distillery for a tasting. We’ll then gather at the Storytelling Center in one of their private rooms for an included catered lunch. Afterward, Vera Ann will take us back to Greeneville for a quick driving tour of this lovely town. It’s the home of President Andrew Johnson. We’ll make a quick stop at his National Park Service Historic Site. We’ll also stop at a great local antique market for some shopping. It’s wonderful! Then it’s back to the hotel for a little R and R. We’ll gather around dinner time to walk across the street to the restored Capitol Theatre. While here we’ll enjoy an included catered dinner, followed by a short movie!
The next morning it’s time to head out on some backroads to Archie Campbell’s Museum. Many of you will recognize his name from the TV program, HeeHaw. Archie grew up in this area and you’ll learn about his simple life here. Later Vera Ann will put out the welcome mat for us at her family’s 550-acre farm! These backroads are taking us to some beautiful spots. While here we’ll enjoy a fun hayride. Time permitting, we may even stop by the corn maze. Hopefully, no one gets lost this time. She’ll then have a wonderful light lunch for us on the farm. It’s an absolutely beautiful spot, and you’ll never find another person as friendly as Vera Ann. After lunch, we’ll make one last stop at a local Amish Market where you can shop, shop, and shop some more. They have so many fun items here. Then it’s back across the mountains into North Carolina, and on back to Georgia. This little trip will be really fun and features a lot of all the fun things y’all like to do!
