September 17-22, 2018
6 days and 5 nights

This will be an awesome journey to the pretty Pennsylvania Amish country during their fall harvest season.   Their farms will be active and bursting with color and activity as they bring in their fall crops.   We will enjoy seeing the back roads of this area, yet taking time to enjoy three great shows while there.  This part of the country is a wonderful mix of old and new, and we will see the very best of it all.  It’s a wonderful mix of what makes Lancaster so famous and enjoyable.

We begin with an overnight in pretty Staunton, Virginia where we will overnight at the historic and beautiful Stonewall Jackson Historic Hotel in downtown.  We will take in the ambiance of this lovely hotel with an included dinner and then a buffet breakfast in the morning.  We then make out way north to Lancaster, where we will stay three nights at the beautiful Doubletree Resort, nestled in the Amish countryside.  While here you’ll enjoy a buffet breakfast each morning, and you’ll enjoy the lovely rooms and resort atmosphere.  It’s a beautiful property!

Lancaster holds a host of activities for us while we visit!  We will spend time with a guide from The Old Order Amish tours and she will take us on the backroads of this community.   She has several stops planned for us on Amish farms and you’ll take away a greater understanding of their way of life.  She has also arranged a delightful lunch for us in an Amish home.  We will also visit the lovely town of nearby Lititz, which has a unique Moravian heritage.  We’ll take in a tour here, visit their quaint downtown, and visit a pretzel making facility as well.  We will also visit the wonderful Amish Flea and Farmers Market on our last morning up there where you can shop for all those wonderful food items and all things Amish.  It’s a really terrific market- completely enclosed and visitor friendly.

We have also arranged for you to have fantastic meals while here.   Of course….look for noodles and lots of them!  We have three dinners planned there, and three included lunches too.   Look for several of them to be served family style! You’ll also have a chance to visit the Kitchen Kettle Village with its wonderful shops, and restaurants.

Lancaster has become quite famous these days for their incredible shows too.   We will see three – two of which will be in the large theaters with their full-scale productions; and one in a smaller venue, a sister property to the one that we saw in Indiana at the Blue Gate Theatre with only 200 seats.  Two of the shows will be afternoon matinees and one will be a dinner show.  Our first night we will see The Home Game, a Mennonite production about a faithful man who must decide about what life he wants – one with his family on his farm, or a pro baseball career.   I’m looking forward to his decision.  A second matinee show will be at the American Music TheatreSongs of the Silver Screen!  This wonderful fast-paced production will feature those wonderful songs from the movies that we all love!  I’m also excited about our matinee of JESUS.  It will be at the amazing Sight and Sound Theatre.  This full scale, all out production will take us thru the story of the life of Christ.  It will be an awesome journey with a full cast, beautiful music, live animals helping to tell the story, and so much more.  There is A LOT of excitement about this show, so I was thrilled to plan this trip around this show.  It will be fantastic.  Three great shows, but each one different and unique!

After our busy days in Lancaster, we will make our way south with another overnight in Virginia and an included dinner.

This will be a great trip – from little visits to the farmer to big shows in town, this trip will have it all!
