Thomasville and Pretty South West Georgia

March 5th – 7th, 2019
Three Days and Two Nights

Georgia is home to some of the most diverse landscapes in the country, so let’s go explore pretty Thomasville!   While there you will be treated to beautiful gardens, lovely homes, great meals, and a quaint downtown too!

On our way there we will enjoy a delicious lunch in Americus at the historic turn of the century Windsor Hotel downtown.  This gem of a hotel is gorgeous inside and lunch should be great too!  From there we will visit nearby Andersonville National Historic Site and the National Prisoner of War Museum.  It’s here you’ll learn about the history of Camp Sumter and the POW Camp of the Civil War.  It’s a moving experience.  Then it’s on to Thomasville where we will check into our hotel and then enjoy an included dinner this evening!

Our day in town will include a visit to the impressive Pebble Hill Plantation, perhaps one of the most photographed homes in Georgia.  Built in 1936 as a family home and hunting retreat, it was built in the plantation style and features over 26,000 square feet.  The furnishings and artwork are all family pieces and are original to the home.  Our tour will also include their lovely gardens, a film at the visitor’s center, and much more.  You’ll be treated to a guided tour of the home, and then enjoy a wagon ride thru the grounds.  Depending on the weather, my hope is that the azaleas will be in full bloom this week.  Fingers crossed!

After our tour, it’s on to downtown for lunch and shopping along their wonderful main street.  It’s one of my most favorite downtowns in the state because it’s charming, flat, and easy to walk around!  You can enjoy Sweetgrass Dairy Cheese Shop, the Farmer’s Daughters Vineyard Shop, and so many more spots!  We will finish up our day with a quick city tour with stops at the Thomasville Rose Garden and the Historic Big Oak Tree, which is believed to be over 330 years old.  Dinner is planned this evening at the Plaza Restaurant, a hometown landmark and in continuous operation for over 100 years.

On our return trip home, we will make our way to Providence Canyon State Park, where you can see the Grand Canyon of Georgia.  It’s a landmark and park worth seeing.  We’ll enjoy an included lunch nearby and then head back.  Sometimes our own state offers us an array of wonderful site-seeing, so check this trip out and come with us!
