April 27th – May 1st, 2019

The legendary Tattoos of Edinburgh and Nova Scotia are now rivaled by the largest Tattoo in the U.S. —
the Virginia International Tattoo. Mounting a mighty spectacle that changes every year, the Virginia
International Tattoo summons more than 1,000 performers including fife and drum corps, bagpipers, military
bands, precision drill teams, and performing ensembles from step dancers to motorcycle stunt drivers.

Day 1, Saturday, April 27: We travel to Emporia, Virginia today with an
independent lunch stop on the way. We’ll spend the night at the Country
Inn & Suites and dine together for supper. (D)

Day 2, Sunday, April 28: It’s showtime! Experience Hullabaloo when
we arrive in Norfolk. Three hours of pipers, dancers, drill teams and drum
lines. Plus, food vendors and a beer tent with tasty craft beers. Expect
performances by international military bands, dancers, drill teams and
some of our favorite local dancers and musicians. The Hullabaloo is a
perfect opportunity to shake hands with an active duty member of armed
forces and take a selfie with a highland dancer. Then the big event, the
Virginia International Tattoo! Each year’s Tattoo is different, with new
performers from across the globe, new themes of honor and patriotism,
and new sights and sounds to amaze you. And we get to see it all from
our premium center seats! After Tattoo, we will check into the Sheraton
Norfolk Waterside for two nights and have dinner together at a local
restaurant. (B/D)

Day 3, Monday, April 29: Begin the day on a guided bus tour of the
world’s largest naval installation, Naval Station Norfolk. A
knowledgeable, active duty Navy guide will give a narrated tour of the
base highlighting the U.S. Naval Fleet, Admirals Row, and how the base
is a working city. On the Victory Rover a two-hour narrated cruise
offers the fastest way to see destroyers, frigates, nuclear submarines
and aircraft carriers at Norfolk Naval Station. A box lunch is provided.
Visit Nauticus, a fun and exciting interactive science and technology
center, exploring the power of the sea. Discover the Hampton Roads
Naval Museum, where you will be introduced to over 200 years of naval
activity in Coastal Virginia. Walk the teak decks of Battleship
Wisconsin, one of the last and largest battleships built by the U.S. Navy.
Stand beneath her 16-inch guns and feel the excitement of being aboard
a historic warship. Top off the day with breathtaking panoramic views of
the Norfolk Skyline and dinner aboard the Spirit of Norfolk, listening to
great music and dancing as you cruise Norfolk’s historic waterways.

Day 4, Tuesday, April 30: Today we depart for Raleigh, NC. Dubbed
the “City of Oaks” for their abundance, Raleigh – the capital of North
Carolina – is known mostly for its universities, technology and scholarly
institutions surrounding the city, forming the so-called Research Triangle.
On this guided city tour we will see diverse architectural styles, learn
about Raleigh history, hear interesting stories and more! Then we’ll travel
to Florence, SC for a night’s stay at the Home2 Suites and dinner at a
local favorite eatery. (B/D)

Day 5, Wednesday, May 1: We are homeward bound after an amazing time at the Virginia International
Tattoo with all our fantastic memories! (B)
