Get Your Kicks on Route 66

October 5-15, 2026
11 Days and 10 Nights

It’s time to hit the Mother Road where it begins in Chicago, continuing on to Oklahoma.   Along this historic route you will see busy cities, small towns, iconic roadside attractions, and a few surprises along the way. This flyer will note those stops and more!  Join us on Route 66 and help us celebrate it’s 100th year.  Each person will receive a Passport that you can get stamped along the way marking this historic journey!  Can’t wait!

Here’s our plans:

We’ll over night in Louisville, Kentucky and then make our way the following day to the Windy City, where it all began!  While there you’ll see the Historic Begin Route 66 sign and make a stop at the Skydeck for sweeping views.  We’ll have dinner at Bergdoff’s, one of oldest operated eateries on the Route.  We’re off now to Joliet, Illinois, home of The Official Route 66 Visitors Center.  Get that passport stamped! Now we’re off to Pontiac for an included lunch and a few attractions like the Gemini Giant, and two classic restored gas stations that look like a step back in time.  We’ll continue south toward Shirley, IL for a stop at the Rt 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame with thousands of artifacts.  Snap your picture at the largest Rt 66 mural!

Mid-way through Illinois now, we’re making our way to Atlanta, IL to see the famous 19-foot Paul Bunyan Statue holding a hot dog!  Then we’re on to Lincoln, and then Springfield.   Along the way there will be more great sights and a stop at the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, beautifully done and honoring our 16th President.  A local guide will join us for great stops in this area.  We’ll have dinner at the Rt 66 Motorheads Bar and Grill, a one-of-a-kind dining experience.  We’ll also see the Neon Sign Park, a drive-in theatre replica and more interesting displays at the Rt 66 Experience.  We’ll mosey on down the route to see the world’s largest catsup bottle and then it’s time to stop at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri.   You can take in the iconic tram ride to the top and enjoy their museum and film.  We’ll stop at a Ted Drewes Frozen Custard for an afternoon treat! Time to move it on down the road toward Springfield and then on to Joplin, Missouri for a stop at the Route 66 Mural Park before we make our way to Galena, Kansas.   We’ll see the Rainbow Bridge, the only remaining arch bridge left in Kansas on the route.  We’ll later stop at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural Center, located in Chelsea Oklahoma.  We’re moving on, but not without a stop at the unique Ed Galloway’s Pole Park, a tribute to the American Indians on a colorful 90-foot pole.  Coming up is the iconic Blue Whale, a beloved historic landmark along the Route.

Next up is Tulsa! We’ll take in a city tour with a guide and see the sites that tell the story here from its beginning to it’s present day.  There is a rich cowboy history here and great stories of locals who struck it rich in oil, and settlers who came to farm this vast area.  We have a fun stop planned at Buc Atom’s Cosmic Curios, housed in a 1950’s PEMCO service station.  Snap a picture with the 21-foot tall Muffler Man and Buck Atom space cowboy, who you’ll see on all kinds of signs and more.

We now have music on our minds too as we visit the Woody Guthrie Center, to learn about this fabled folk singer.  Not to be missed is the Bob Dylan Center, where you’ll view exclusive cultural treasures created and owned by Dylan.  You’ll see handwritten lyrics, film performance, rare photographs and other priceless items spanning his career.  As we continue touring, we have a fun stop planned for POPS 66, a must-see landmark in Arcadia, OK with its family-friendly restaurant, gas station, store and tons of bottled soda.  They also feature the 66-foot tall pop bottle outside, updated with a modern design and Multicolor LED lights.

For something a little different it’s time to visit the Drummond Lodge (if their filming schedule permits it) where a local guide will give a brief tour of Pawhuska and then lunch at the Food Network Star Ree Drummon’s Pioneer Woman Mercantile site.  You can shop afterwards too!  We’re now on our way to Oklahoma City where’s we’ll enjoy a guided city tour, a visit to the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.  This is a moving tribute and memorial to the bombing victims there.  The following day it’s time to bid farewell to Route 66 as we make our way back east.  We’ll make a stop at the U.S. Marshals Museum with 5 immersive galleries about this oldest federal law enforcement agency.  We’ll make our way across Arkansas today with our last overnight in Southaven, Mississippi, just south of Memphis.  Next up, we’ll head back to Georgia!

This trip will feature 10 overnight stops, with two-night stays in Springfield and Tulsa; 11 days of touring and traveling, 16 meals:  10 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 4 dinners.   Just want to let people know there will be a lot of getting on and off the bus as we make all our stops along Route 66.   Local guides will be joining us on several days on this tour, and their tips are included in the price.  Also included are all tours and listed attractions, meal tips, luggage handling, and tour director.  Not included are driver and tour director tips, and travel protection.  It is available, and prices are listed.
