I’m delighted to offer this wonderful little Christmas getaway to charming Jekyll Island!  I’m even more excited to let you know that we will be having high tea in the main dining room of the Jekyll Island Club, which is impeccably decorated in period style for the season.  It’s truly a wonderful experience!  You will love the tea, which is served individually, and the wonderful towers loaded with delicious goodies to share.

The plan is to make our way down to this barrier island, which at one time was one of the wealthiest islands in the country.  The very rich from the north came to the area to build their winter ‘cottages,’ and the historic area is still lovely.  It’s anchored by their ‘club’, which we now know as the Jekyll Island Club. While there, we will have a host of activities to enjoy!  The homes have been repurposed and beautifully restored.  You’ll have time to explore this after our tea AND on our historic tram ride thru the village on their fun evening lights tour for the Holly Jolly Jekyll ride!  There are also a host of cute shops, all housed in historic buildings where you can shop for last-minute Christmas gifts. One home is now an art gallery, and it will house an art show while we are there, which features local artists and craftsmen. The turtle rescue center can be visited on your own too. 

I will also give you time to explore their wonderful Mosaic Museum, which explores the history of this island, from Native Americans, James Oglethorpe, and later as it became a vacation spot. It’s a great place to learn just how this island became so famous!  They have a wonderful gift shop too. A trip to the island wouldn’t be complete without a visit to their world-famous Driftwood Beach!  It’s a very short walk right off the steps of the bus to this little slice of heaven with an undeveloped beach and its beautiful trees.  A must-see!

We’ll be staying near the Convention Center area of the island at the Home 2 Suites by Hilton, which will give you great access to many shops and restaurants. The main beach is also located there, and you are welcome to walk there as well. Although not on the beach, our hotel is very close for those beach walkers!

We have two additional lunches on this trip as well.  We’ll enjoy an included lunch buffet at BevRicks on the way there. Then, on the way home, we’ll enjoy a delicious seafood lunch in Darien. Other options are available, but there is nothing better than fresh-caught Georgia shrimp!! Hope you’ll join us for this festive and fun trip!
