LaFayette, Louisiana Mardi Gras Trip!

LaFayette, Louisiana Mardi Gras Trip!

February 28-March 5, 2025
6 days and 5 nights

By popular demand, we are going back to LaFayette for a really big time!   This is one of my absolute favorite trips of all time….mostly because of Danny Bonaventure who is an exceptional Mardi Gras host!  He’s full of funny stories, great historic information, and just a blast to be around.  LaFayette is also a wonderful town, 2 hours away from New Orleans, so they have a very family-friendly vibe here, yet we can be adults having fun too!  It’s a blast!  Our plan is to overnight in Mississippi on the way there, then make our way to LaFayette for 3 nights, followed by another overnight in Mississippi. We will have so many great stops in Louisiana and Danny has a fantastic itinerary planned for us with incredible local food, music, historic tours, swamp visit, local shopping,  and three parades!   Look at all the fun we’ll have:

  • Jean Laffite Cultural Center where we will have a great introductory film and a museum stop.
  • Lunch at the wonderful Acadian Superette with great food all in a re-purposed grocery store. Yummy!!
  • Dinner downtown just before the Bonaparte Parade where we will have reserved seating on a review stand with perhaps an adult beverage and lots of beads! The floats often stop in front of our stands to throw beads! Complimentary Sugar Cane Rum drinks, King Cake, and boudin will be served!
  • Shopping at Rouse’s, a Louisiana-owned grocery store with great local goodies.
  • Tour of the Alexandre Mouton Mansion with its collection of Mardi Gras King and Queen costumes.
  • Visit to Breaux Bridge, the crawfish capital of the world! Lunch is planned at Poche’s Meat Market – a local fav!
  • A stop in Henderson, and the Louisiana Market Shops at the 101 – all local vendors, artists, and PRALINES!
  • Visit to Vermilionville, a complete village representing what the area looked like 200 years ago. There will be a great Cajun/Zydeco band for dancing too.  Beautiful stop on the banks of the Vermilion River.
  • Visit to St. John’s Cathedral and the 500-year-old oak tree.
  • A stop at the Daiquiri Supreme for you guessed it…..a daiquiri of your choice! Great afternoon stop!
  • Dinner and dancing at Randol’s, the oldest dance hall in the area. Good times, and great food too.
  • A guided boat swamp tour! Maybe those alligators will be out and about!
  • Visit to Conrad/Kon Rico Rice Mill, a wonderful place so rich in history and GREAT rice products for sale!
  • Visit to Avery Island, home of Tabasco. We’ll have a tour here, lunch, see the jungle gardens, and shopping!
  • Another great local dinner is planned for that evening and then on to the Queen Evangeline Parade!
  • The next morning we’ll have another highlight – the Kings Parade! The biggest one of all!

Love this trip so much!   Join us, you’ll be glad you did!!
