Footsteps of Margaret Mitchell

Footsteps of Margaret Mitchell

Thursday, July 11, 2024

Let’s head down to Peachtree Street in Atlanta and follow in the footsteps of Margaret Mitchell.  We’ll start with a visit to ‘The Dump’ as her last apartment is known. The Margaret Mitchell House is now a wonderful museum.  We’ll take the tour and see a short film about her while here. It’s the spot where she wrote her famous novel, Gone With The Wind.  You will see just how simply she lived.  We’ll then travel down Peachtree to see the location on Peachtree Street where she tragically was killed walking across the street.  We’ll then make stop at the Fulton County Library which has a small collection of items from her estate, including the actual typewriter that she used as she wrote her novel.  On our next stop we will drop off Peachtree Street and head over to Ponce to enjoy an included lunch at Mary Mac’s Tea Room.  Perhaps she ate good southern food like this at a similar restaurant in town.  Our last stop will be a short visit to Oakland Cemetery, where we will see her grave site.  If you are a fan of this talented writer, you will love this little day trip!
